Batizado is Portuguese and means "baptism." It is an initiation and fraternization festival. At the ceremony, the student receives his first cord and symbolically plays with a highly graduated capoeirista.
When a beginner has acquired a certain skill and knowledge in the field of capoeira, he is ready to participate in the Batizado, where he will be accepted into the world of Capoeira. Students who already own their first cord change only, hence the name "Troca de Cordas" or "changing the cords."Â The Batizado is therefore part of a very special Capoeira weekend. There are mestres (masters), teachers and capoeiristas from different regions.
We have already hosted several Batizados in Freising:
I FREICAP – Batizado and Troca de Cordas 2014
II FREICAP – Batizado and Troca de Cordas 2015 (photos/video)
III FREICAP – Batizado and Troca de Cordas 2016
IV FREICAP – Batizado and Troca de Cordas 2017
V FREICAP – Batizado and Troca de Cordas 2018
When?
The Batizados with workshops take place once a year. Usually over a whole weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) between October and November.
